At 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 Sugar Bowl Resorts mid-mountain lodge caught fire. The fire occurred when the lodge and resort lifts were closed.
Due to the location of the lodge being only accessible from ski lifts, Sugar Bowl had to use its snowcats to bring the fire crews who arrived to the center of the mountain. That wasn’t the only challenge the crews faced though as they had a limited water supply to work with to put out the fire.
The firefighters were able to put out the fire at 6:40 p.m., eliminating the fire before it spread outside the lodge to nearby lifts or greenery.
Sugar Bowl reported that no one was inside the lodge at the time of the fire and that fortunately no one was injured in the incident. Officials are still investigating and are unsure of the cause of the fire.
Sugar Bowl mentioned that the resort will be open and all its lifts will be operational on Wednesday, January 21, 2026.
This is the second fire that has occurred within the past five months at Sugar Bowl, with the previous fire happening on October 7, 2025. The previous fire was in Sugar Bowl village, very close to their mid-mountain lodge.
Several videos and multiple angles of the incident are available online for anyone to view.
