Sleep & Study Habits:
Even with all of these fun events happening, it’s still important to be mindful of Midterms and what that means individually. Everyone is different and has different sleep schedules, so it’s key to get back into the habit of getting good sleep starting at the beginning of the week. This will help ensure you’re able to continue this rest pattern on the nights prior to midterms.
Having a sleep schedule you can get into the habit of can help make sure you’re well rested, as it takes a few days for your body to catch up from lost sleep. This means that even if you have been sleeping well but stay up significantly late one night, it can have a huge effect on you for the rest of the week, and according to Pediatrician Michael Crocetti, at Johns Hopkins Medicine, “Teens need 9 to 9 ½ hours of sleep per night.”
Gaining good study habits is just as important as sleep. This one is particularly important to Freshmen who are still getting used to the workload that Truckee High School provides. It’s also key to understand how to manage your time well in order to be able to study for all of your classes.
Some good study habits, particularly for midterms, are to take time (preferably earlier in the week) to go over any packets or work your teacher may give you to prepare for midterms. You should use this time to also go over any previous work that may be important to the topic of your midterm. Having done that, it can also help you to put all of the crucial information into a study guide or even notes of your own for you to review later.
As midterms approach, you should continue to go over your study guide and/or notes nightly; even doing so just once can help you instill this information in your head. Following this, the nights before your midterms: go over these notes once again, but in depth, take time to go over them more than once. Depending on the class, it may be helpful to also do a few practice problems.
With this, you can go into your midterms with a good mindset, knowing that you’ve taken time to study and have an understanding of the material you will be tested on. However, most importantly, remember that whatever the outcome, you tried and it’s not the end of the world.
