October has fallen upon us. And chances are, you’re looking for something to watch. Sadly, it doesn’t take a genius to realize that there are very few spooky movies that actually take place around Halloween time. But fear not, or tonight, your boredom will seal its doom when it meets these true, genuine Halloween movies.
The first one that comes to mind is without doubt “Trick ‘R Treat” (2007). It’s fun, festive, and more than a little bit spooky. Out of all the Halloween movies out there, that one is by far the best. If you’re not considering family movies, that is.
Speaking of family movies, “Hocus Pocus” (1993) never gets old. The film’s whimsy and nostalgia makes it enjoyable for all ages. If there’s one movie that’ll make you feel like a kid again, this is it. Not to mention, the iconic Sanderson Sisters make for an exciting and recognizable group costume.
There is also none other than Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas” (1993). Two great films in one year, what a lovely way to end the early ‘90s. This is one you get to watch two seasons in a row. Some people think this is strictly a Christmas movie, others believe it to be more for Halloween, personally, I think it’s a perfect example of both.
Like those mentioned before, “Halloweentown” (1998) also makes for an awesome family movie night , as it’s both charming and festive. Everything in this movie, from the plot to the aesthetics is sure to put a smile on your face.
On the eerier side of kid’s movies, “Monster House” (2006) is essentially just a horror film for the younger audience. At first sight, it’s just an animated Halloween movie. But it’s so much more than that. It’s both enjoyable and scary, but not to the point where it will give you too many nightmares.
“Hubie Halloween” (2020) is a good option if you want something for older kids and adults. Adam Sandler stars as Hubie Dubois, a town underdog who rises to fame when he saves the day, that day being Halloween. It is a great blend of comedy and mystery, a love letter to fans of those genres.
And of course, we can’t forget the classics. “Halloween” (1978) is one of the most iconic Halloween films of all time. There’s nothing not to love about it. Michael Myers will continue to go down in history as one of the greatest horror villains of all time.
So, if you’re scared half to death this month because you can’t find the right movie to watch, perhaps these entertaining fright fests will be just what you need to get you in the Halloween spirit.
