Finals are here, which for many Truckee students means late-night studying and perfecting next semester’s schedule. Many things can help one prepare for finals whether it’s studying late or getting a good night’s rest. It’s important to still make time for yourself.
Studying is one of the best ways to make sure you know all the content needed for your finals. All you need is to go somewhere you can sit down, focus, and review. If you do not know where to start try looking in Google Classroom and scroll to the very first lessons.
Depending on the finals you have, your studying will look different. If you have English this could be a hard class to study for, especially if it is just an essay. One way that can help you succeed is by looking at the teacher or peer comments from your old essay. These comments can give you insight into what you need to work on to make your writing better.
Studying for math can be overwhelming because there is a lot of content to cover with not very much time. The best way to approach this is to work on things you know you aren’t already good at. If you study things that you seem to already have a grasp on, it won’t help you in the long run. If you don’t know what you need help on, try looking at old tests and see what problems you have gotten wrong.
Studying for any science class can get confusing. Just like math, you have to learn equations and make sure you can correctly solve problems. However, science can also consist of a lot of vocabulary. This is when flashcards or Quizlet can come in handy. You can write the term on one side and then the meaning on the other. With the flashcards, you can test yourself or have others test you.
History is a big one to study because there is a lot of information to go over. It can get overwhelming with how much you have to learn. For this subject, the best thing to do is go in chronological order because that is most likely how it was taught to you, so the chances are that your binder or folder goes in that order. Just like science, flashcards can help you remember specific terms and dates.
Late night studying isn’t the only thing that will help you pass your test. Taking care of your mental health and getting a good night’s sleep will help improve your test results. Taking the time in the morning to make sure you eat a good breakfast or maybe take a second to just calm down and breathe before your exam can help release the stress and anxiety you might have, allowing you to focus on the work in front of you.
After finals are over, you only have a weekend to get yourself prepared for the next semester. If you are a freshman or new to the school you might not know where your new classes are so one of the best things to do is after school one day this week, walk around the school with your schedule to find where your classes are. If you are too busy after school, get to school early on Monday or go during break and lunch.
These are some tips that can help you for finals this semester and that you can carry into the rest of your school year. Make sure you come to school Monday ready to start new classes.
