Village Pizzeria is one of many pizzerias in Truckee. Despite having such competition though, they are among the best; the other pizzerias are not widely considered good.
Village Pizzeria is an Italian restaurant which offers pizza, pasta, and more. Upon entering the restaurant, the customer is seated at a padded booth.
The restaurant is dim and intimate, with warm, dark, and woodsy decor reflective of the town it’s in. Cushions detailed with soft red, blue, and yellow surround tables made from wood coated in resin. Quiet music plays in the background, barely intelligible as country and singer-songwriter.
The servers are attentive, especially on slow nights. Some of them have worked at the restaurant for multiple years. The staff are very close; according to a server, “It’s like a family.”
Village Pizzeria has a variety of appetizers, with most being made from pizza dough and slathered with garlic. Some of these are Garlic Chips, Pasta Bread, Hot Wings and more.
The Pasta Bread is a ball of pizza dough, topped with garlic butter. It is served warm with the butter half-melted and an aroma of garlic rising from the plate. The dough makes it dense and filling for an appetizer, but the flavor is hard to dislike.
This restaurant offers a few salads: House Salad, Caesar Salad, Caramelized Apple Salad, and a few more. The Caesar Salad is a menu must-have, and the way it’s executed resembles a bagged salad from a grocery store. It is not bad, but it’s not notable either.
Pizza is Village Pizzeria’s main item, and they have a variety of flavors as well as a “Create your own” option. They have three sizes: 8”, 12”, and 14”. They offer a classic hand-tossed crust, stuffed crust, and a deep dish.
Their Bianco pizza is hand-tossed dough topped with original red sauce, mozzarella, Italian sausage, mushroom, and garlic. It had strong umami and salty flavors, but the garlic was difficult to taste.
Their classic hand-tossed crust is fluffy and thick, especially around the edge, but is a bit soggy towards the middle. The pizzas are filling, salty, and cheesy, but the sauce isn’t overshadowed by the dough and cheese.
They have many other menu items, including lunch sandwiches, pastas, and a daily soup, but their pizzas are the most purchased.
Village Pizzeria offers a varied menu, but they do best with their pizzas and appetizers. If you are looking for salty food that is both cheap and good for the town of Truckee, Village Pizzeria is your place.
