As the weather turns cooler, our minds go to the holiday line-up ahead, the first holiday of the season being Halloween. Many people struggle to find last minute costumes of something we actually like, and just end up with no costume by the time the 31st comes around.
If you do want a costume, it might be more appealing to do it with a friend. There are so many easy pop culture-related costume ideas at your fingertips waiting to be tried out this Halloween. Some of these can be found in your closet, you don’t even need to make that dreaded trip all the way to Target just to get one specific piece of your costume.
Here are some costume ideas for duos this year:
1. Batman and the Joker
Gray top, gray pants, pin on a yellow paper cutout of the bat symbol (if you’re feeling fancy, maybe even a black blanket as a cape!). A friend can throw on some crazy lipstick, slick back their hair, and put on a purple shirt. Friends to enemies instantly.
2. Gru and Minions
This is compatible for more than a duo! So you and your whole friend group can get together and have an easy costume. Gru, grab your striped scarf and black hoodie. Everyone else can sport a pair of overalls and paint glasses on their face. Time to steal the moon!
3. Cop and Robber
Pull out your striped shirt to transform into a Halloween robber! A friend can join you in blue or denim and don their sunglasses as a crime stopping duo.
4. Captain America and Iron Man
One person can be in a red outfit and the other in blue to simplify this duo. However, if you want to spend some money but stay simple, t-shirts with the logos can work to get the point across.
5. Pirate and Mermaid
This one might take some prep, but it can be simplified. For a pirate, any flowy shirt and either a big hat or a bandana around the head can add to the seafaring vibe. As the mermaid, a friend can facepaint on some scales, and wear a long flowy skirt with a shell necklace to embody the ocean.
6. Fire Boy and Water Girl
Similar to Captain America and Iron Man, one friend as Fire Boy can dress in all red, and one friend as Watergirl can dress in all blue.
7. Padme and Anakin
If you’re not comfortable with a couples’ costume, try Padme and Jar Jar! But a brown robe for Anakin and white shorts with a white top for Padme works well for this duo.
8. Christina Aguilera and Eminem from the 2002 VMAs
A blue infinity scarf, white hat, and mini skirt could be pulled together for Christina. For Eminem, an oversized white button up could be DIYed with some paint.
9. Mario and Luigi
This one is pretty straightforward. One person wears overalls with a red shirt, and the other person can wear a green shirt under their overalls.
10. Barbie and Ken
This costume has the most potential for adaptability of this list because of Barbie and Ken’s many eras and looks. One idea could be a pink dress for Barbie, and a surfer button up look for Ken.
Bonus Costume: Hiccup and Toothless from How to Train Your Dragon
This is the most difficult costume here, and might require some extra prep. However, as Hiccup, you can dress up in any fake fur and earth tones, and as Toothless, you can have a friend dress up in all black, or even put wings on a pet!
