The Homecoming football game is a yearly tradition known by every American high schooler. It is full of school spirit, hot dogs, and traditional celebrations of masculinity.
For someone unfamiliar with school spirit in the U.S., homecoming games are daunting at first. The entrance to the stadium alone, with excited parents, stressed out marching band members, and focused volunteers, is enough to make someone new turn around and go home.
But there is always a chance that the new experience is something to love, and it might make it easier to understand what to expect.
The homecoming game really is lots of fun, people are brought together with something that they can somehow relate to. Whether they dislike loud crowds or even football itself, there is something to love in the homecoming game. The cheerleaders bring an inspiring performance too, their cheers echo through the student section, giving life to the lifeless.
The 2024 homecoming game, Truckee vs. Lowry, was exactly that. With a final score of 37-7, Truckee in the lead, the crowd was going wild. The school spirit could be heard in the chants of “T – what?” “T – town!” and seen on the faces of students cheering in the stands.
If you missed the game this year, come down to Surprise Stadium and join in on the homecoming fun. There are plenty of things to love, and do from kickoff to a winning celebration. If you were there, come back again next year, and spread the word of a great school experience.
