Over the years, Gen Z has gathered a good amount of slang words. However, when Gen Alpha came into the picture, they “stole” or changed some words. Gen Alpha has also added some of its own slang.
Some of Gen Z’s most popular or frequently used words include rizz, facts, lowkey, slay, delulu, cap, for real, ate, cooked, and bet.
However, Gen Alpha’s slang words include skibidi toilet, sigma, Ohio, GOAT, mewing, gyatt, and Fanum tax. They have also used Gen Z’s words like rizz, cap, and slay.
Most of the meanings are straightforward but here are the definitions for the more complex ones. Skibidi toilet refers to a meme that was started on a YouTube channel. The word doesn’t have a direct meaning it just relates to the meme.
Ohio is referring to the actual place. When something or someone comes from Ohio, it’s normally strange or unnatural so when Gen Alpha uses Ohio they’re calling something unnatural or weird.
Fanum tax refers to the meme started by streamer Fanum when he stole his friend’s food and called it his tax.
All generations use slang words from the generations before them but also create their own or bring back those that died out. For instance, Gen Z and Gen X share the word vibe, hella, and dude.
The main difference between Gen Z and Gen Alpha was that Gen Alpha got most of their words from memes from YouTube or other streaming platforms. Gen Z is mainly just shortened words or Abbreviations.
Generations use slang words to express their personalities and uniqueness. It allows them to show separation from their generation to their parents or any of the ones before them. New things getting introduced to each generation leads to more unique and diverse generations.
As technology comes into the world more frequently you notice more words that come from a platform and less from the actual outside world.
Something that might be strange to another generation is cool to the ones in that generation. Avery Chappell says “Gen Alpha slang is a bit too much but I understand that slang words in general are cool to the generation they belong to.”
Others get concerned about when they get to be in high-positioned government roles in society. Dani Mason says “The words that Gen Alpha is creating concern me for when they are in charge of the world. I do not want to hear a very high-positioned individual say “skibidi” when talking about an important situation.”
