With the end of school approaching, summer is just around the corner, and here are five fun summer activities you can do in Truckee.
One of the most popular summer activities is going to the lake or docks. The lake is always a fun summertime activity. It’s a great way to stay cool in the heat, and there are so many things to do.
You can do classic paddle boarding or kayaking. If you prefer to stand up, paddle boarding is perfect for you. The concept of paddle boarding is easy. You stand on this board, which is almost like a surfboard, and you have an oar that helps you move through the water. Similar to this is kayaking, where instead of standing, you sit, and the oar has two paddles, one on each end.
With Truckee Lakes being so big, you can rent a boat, or if you already have one, bring it to the lake and go tubing. Tubing is a fan favorite. You go in this floaty that can come in all shapes and sizes and attach it to the end of your boat. The boat goes as fast as you want, and you have to try and stay on. You could go in the waves or outside of the ship.
You could also do the classic and go swimming. There are many spots to rest and set up so you can enjoy the sun and go for a nice swim. The Donner Lake’s north shore docks are perfect because you can set up some chairs. Some docks are in the sun, some are in the shade, and you are right by the water.
Truckee is home to many golf courses if you are more into sports. The Ponderosa golf course is located by the regional park, and Old Greenwood and the Schaffer Mill golf course are also nearby. Golfing is not the only sport in Truckee.
If you like biking, there are three different types you can do in Truckee. If you want to road bike, then that’s easy—just ride on whatever road you like. If you like gravel biking, there are a few spots, one of them being the Prosser Dam trail. The main form of biking is mountain biking. There are so many different trail options ranging in many different skill levels.
If you’re not an outdoor person, you can go to the movies. Northstar has a movie theater, but it’s not always open, so make sure you check before you go. Tahoe City also has a great movie theater called the Tahoe Art Haus and Cinema.
If you want to be in the trees and love a good thrill, try the Tahoe Treetop Adventure Park, also in Tahoe City. This is a fantastic zipline place. Not only is it just a zipline, but it is also an obstacle course. They use the local trees and range in difficulty, the green circles being the easiest and the black diamonds being the hardest.
