This ski season has been off to a rough start for the Truckee High School Alpine Ski team.
Due to the late arrival of snow, the first two races of the season were canceled. With the third race coming close the ski team really needed a day to train so they could be a little more prepared. Sadly, Alpine Meadow’s normal training hill, Kangaroo, was not open so they had yet another day of free skiing. No need to worry, snow is on the way. You would think that’s a good thing but not for the ski team. The snow comes the same day as the race. SNOW DAY. The race scheduled at Kirkwood is canceled. Will the ski team ever get a race?
The following week things are looking good. There was enough snow from the following storm that the Wolverines finally got some gate training in. The forecast shows rain for Wednesday, will the race be canceled yet again? In the end, the rain storm turned out to be a snow storm so things proceeded as scheduled except the scheduled slalom was changed to a giant slalom.
The first heat was rough and the visibility was terrible and the snow was chunky. Many people were falling due to not seeing the bumps in front of them. It looked as though the second run could get canceled due to the danger of injuries. Just as we all thought it would be canceled the sky started clearing up.
The second run was a go. The visibility and results were a lot better. Not only was the weather all over the place but Live Timing for the girls results and times were not showing up on Live-Timing, so none of the girls could see how well they did.
Even with all this craziness the results came back in and Truckee had two out of four boys place in the top 15. Carson Koch in 4th and Cash Jones in 7th. The Girls had six out of fourteen girls placed in the top 15. Caroline Ehrman in 3rd, Michaela Bruce in 4th, Ellyse Hutchins 5th, Aspen Hall in 10th, Emma Bimbaum in 13th, and Olive Masterson in 15th. Good job Truckee!
