Becoming a Glenshire Eagle

My life in Elementary school was great. I started kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade at SELS. Second grade was cool because at the end of the school year my class went on an overnight field trip. We boarded a train at the Truckee Train Station without our parents and we started heading toward Sacramento. We took the train to the railroad museum in Sacramento and toured the exhibits. We also went to the State Capitol in Sacramento. After that we went to a hotel by ourselves with our teachers and chaperones. The best part of the hotel was when I woke up early and looked out the window at all the pretty lights in the city. It was like a thousand stars so close to me or a thousand flowers blooming all over the place. It was so beautiful! Then I went back to sleep. In the morning we packed up and got in our cars, then headed back to SELS. This field trip was really fun.

Near the end of second grade I changed schools and became a Glenshire Elementary Eagle. That was also right before Covid-19 hit, so I was only at Glenshire Elementary for one week before my mom became my teacher. Once I got into third grade, my teacher was Mr. Rae. He was the best teacher ever. I had some really good memories in that class because he was really funny and had the best sense of humor. I was happy to be at school again, even though we only went to school two days per week. The “Pumpkininos” and “Mr. Rae’s revenge” activities were really fun. Pumpkininos was an activity where we would get tiny pumpkins and make clothes and shelter for them. Mr. Rae’s revenge was where we had to correct his mistakes that he had written on a paper.

In fourth grade, I was in Mrs. Roberts’ class. Mrs. Ludwig was my teacher on Fridays. Sadly, she passed away this year when I was in fifth grade. I really miss her and how she encouraged me when I had trouble with my schoolwork. In fourth grade, we learned about the California gold rush, so we got to go on an exciting “Frontier Days” field trip to Donner Lake Campground. When we got there, we did really fun activities, like looking for gold at a river, making candles, playing games, making letters on leather, and making a badge that goes around your neck. My favorite part was getting fake gold pieces for each activity and getting to use them to buy snacks and treats. The funny thing was that we made bags for our gold, but some kids didn’t sew the bottom of their bags so their gold was falling out and landing on the pavement. The gold pieces were scattered all over the campsite parking lot. Other miners and I were finding and picking up the lost gold pieces. It was the end of fourth grade and I was moving up to fifth grade.

I was so excited to be in the highest grade at Glenshire Elementary School. I have a great teacher named Mrs. Boreen. She is really nice and cares a lot about me. I love this grade a lot because the younger students look up to us as role models. Another thing I liked about fifth grade is that we got to go on an amazing overnight field trip when our class drove to the California State Capital and California Railroad museum. This was the second time that I had been to these two places. After visiting the Capitol and museum, we drove to a pizza place to eat. A funny thing happened at the pizza place. Star Wars was on and when Princess Leia kissed Han Solo, everyone in the room cheered. Finally, we went to the Sacramento Zoo to set up our tents because we were going to sleep there. After we set up our tents we took a tour around the zoo. The cutest animals that I saw were the river otters. They would stand up and shine their beautiful faces all over the place. At the end of the day, we went to bed at 9:30pm and woke up at 6:30am. Then we had breakfast and drove to Starbucks to get some drinks. We drove back to school and watched a movie. This field trip was very fun and we have more coming. Glenshire Elementary School was a really nice school and I made a lot of new friends. I would like to say thank you to my teachers for teaching me and to my friends for being there for me.
