Tahoe Forest Hospice Gift & Thrift
Location: 10338 River Park Pl, Truckee CA. Conveniently located right off of West River Street near Truckee Rents.
Shopping Hours: Monday – Saturday from 10 am – 5 pm (open at 11 on the first of the month)
Pros: The hospice thrift has a great selection of unique clothes, antiques, games, kids gear, books, and beyond. They provide dressing rooms and the opportunity for you to drop off donations.
Cons: Donations are first come first serve because they can’t guarantee there will be space to drop off your stuff.
Echo Blue & Mountain Kids Consignment
Location: 11429 Donner Pass Rd, Truckee CA. On the main drag of Donner Pass in the Wild Cherries and Pet Station parking area. The stores are under the same roof and ownership just with different focuses.
Shopping Hours: Weekdays from 10am – 1pm
Consigning Hours: 1st-14th of every month by appointment or during shopping hours. More information can be found under the “Consign With Us” tab on either website.
Pros: They curate the selection to ensure what you are buying is “cute, clean, and current” as their website says. Both sides of the store (kids and womens) are brimming with wonderful gifts. The Mountain Kids options are ideal for parents to find clothes, shoes, snow gear, toys, and more for their growing children.
Cons: The shops also bring in new clothes to satisfy certain categories or demands and they aren’t always of the best quality.
Unique Boutique – Viviane’s Vintage & Vogue
Location: 10925 West River St, Truckee CA. Follow where the pink hand reading “unique” points to discover this lesser known gem. Right on the Truckee River, it’s just a six minute walk from the hospice thrift store.
Hours: Times vary significantly but the boutique is open daily roughly from noon into the evening. Check the hours on Google or call 530-582-8484 to verify.
Pros: Best costume selection rivaled only by Junkee! Perfect for last minute Halloween ideas or eclectic finds to spice up your day. Viviane, the owner, is a wonderful person who is always happy to help you. The store is crowded with crazy goods so it is fun to pop into Unique Boutique just to view the decor and say hi.
Cons: Pricing is kind of up-in-the-air and negotiable with Viviane. Not the best place for everyday clothing or more simple style.
Goodwill Reno – Smithridge Center
Location: 5000 Smithridge Dr, Reno NV. The best and most convenient Goodwill location in Reno. Located in the same shopping center as Trader Joe’s near South McCarran and Virginia streets.
Hours: 8am-8pm everyday, 9am-7pm on Sundays.
Pros: It would take you over an hour to look through all of the clothes, so there is almost always something for you. Some of the best deals you can find and lots of dressing rooms so you can try everything on.
Cons: The selection of non-clothing items like picture frames, CDs, and furniture isn’t as good. Can be busy on weekends.
Location: 960 South Virginia St, Reno NV. Five minutes from the Peppermill in the heart of the Midtown District.
Hours: 11am – 7pm daily.
Pros: You can find pretty much anything your heart desires at Junkee. In addition to their clothes section and great costumes there is a whole antique side where you can check out furniture, old magazines, and other interesting gizmos. Junkee also is a great entity in the Midtown community because they host events, theme parties, and know lots about the area.
Cons: Some of the prices may be on the higher end for secondhand shopping because of the quality and more curated selection.
